A contract you understand

The Labour Inspectorate explains that a person who does not understand Polish should receive a written version they understand before signing a Polish-language contract. Ask about unclear clauses and retain your copy. Check the entity name, role and work location.

What should you compare?

Distinguish gross from net and check whether the rate is hourly, monthly or output-based. Ask how allowances, bonuses and any costs are calculated. Confirm the payment date, time-recording method and whether accommodation and transport have charges.

Employment and service contracts

The contract type affects rights and payment arrangements. Do not assume that leave, working-time and allowance rules are identical in every model. Discuss how the work is actually organised and ask for the rules applicable to the proposed contract.

Practical preparation checklist

  • Which entity signs the contract and where will you work?
  • Is the amount gross or net, and for what period?
  • Which part is base pay and which is conditional bonus?
  • How are hours, costs and payment calculated?
  • Who explains discrepancies and how will you receive documents?
An illustrative situation

Two offers show similar rates, but one includes housing and the other charges separately. Compare more than the headline. Ask for all agreed costs and conditions. The same applies to bonuses: base pay and the maximum result after meeting additional criteria should be clearly distinguished before signing.
